I told a friend of mine after a recent catch-up that conversations with her are like a Burt Bacharach song: it sticks with me all day, bringing the sunshine and lighting my way.
The music of Burt Bacharach is like that. As a poet and music lover, his writing, composing, and songs spoke to me as a child, and still do to this day.
Our influences, contributors, and mentors are sometimes folks we know well, and other times are strangers that we feel like we know because we’ve learned so much about them. We’ve read their biography or absorbed their words of wisdom or golden nuggets of positive influences from bits of history. We’ve listened to their songs, read their books, seen their photographs. We have an affection for them and—knowingly (or not)—we are inspired to create our own things to share.
I was so sad when I read of his passing on February 9 and grateful his music will live on forever. What an incredible legacy.
Music Stream of Consciousness
Remembering how we loved these songs
Heavenly music that feels like home
A speaker softly overhead
Car radio on for the road ahead
Divine songs you can’t forget
Goosebumps every time they play
Warm fuzzy feelings of happy days
Beach, backyard, or setting sail
Sing along on the hiking trail
Oldie-goldies smooth as silk
Like velvet kisses or warm cookies with milk
Makes you forget what was on your mind
Burt Bacharach
Your music is sublime
From all those places and serendipitous things that touch us—the music we hear, where we travel, the people we meet—is the music of our hearts.
