April is National Poetry Month and to celebrate and encourage children’s interest in poetry, I’m running a Goodreads giveaway where you can register to win one of 10 copies of my illustrated poetry book White Wild Indigo! The entry period begins on Apr 15, 2018 and ends on May 10, 2018.
After much trial and error, I feel like I’ve landed in a beautiful place of health, healing & happiness. Wellness, healthy food, peace and beauty are all inextricably linked. They cannot be considered separately. Eating healthy, physical activity, a positive outlook, getting rest, and working on inspiring, purposeful projects are all integral to each other for happiness and well-being. It’s the balance of an organized whole that is perceived as more than the sum of its parts.
I love it when all the words come together, and even better when all the pieces fit together.
It doesn’t always happen, but last month went seamless.
Tendership is a word I made up myself. It’s my emotional vocabulary to describe a tender friendship that brings soulful wellness.
I recently read a BBC article a friend shared on Facebook about words taken from other countries that have no direct English equivalent, but represent very precise emotions that are neglected in our language. It talks about “emotion granularity” which means some people use different emotion words interchangeably as the same thing, while others are highly precise in their descriptions and view feelings with specific actions associated with them.
I first met Erin Robinson at the Alchemists Breakfast at the 2017 DENT Conference. I instantly liked her down-to-earth style and, turns out, she has many of the same interests as me. We instantly clicked. After breakfast, I noticed her name tag said Colorado as we continued our conversation. I explained that Boulder was on my bucket list of places to bring the “Sage Spirit” and perhaps late August would be a nice time for that, since it would also coincide with the launch of White Wild Indigo. She said she had the perfect place.
I wrote this poem in the wake of the heartbreaking news of the Orlando night club incident last summer, however I’m once again reminded of these words after the news of the Las Vegas shooting this weekend. These incomprehensible tragedies have shocked and saddened me beyond belief. I didn’t think this is where we would be in the world. It’s overwhelming.
